The Sports Report

A Statistical Take on Sports and Politics

“Art Street Sports Beat” on 99.5-FM WUDR

I am thrilled to announce that starting this Saturday, September 13th I will have a sports talk radio show on 99.5-FM WUDR here in Dayton, OH. My friend Collin Schmidt from Rochester, New York will be filling in this week for my partner Ron Zeszut, a graduate of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio. For those outside the Dayton area, you can always listen online anytime at the WUDR website. Click on the link on the left-hand side to “Listen Now,” and follow the instructions of downloading Real Player in order to listen live. Do not hesitate to call the radio station at (937) 229-2774 if you need help listening to the show online.

The following is a rough outline for my first-ever live radio show. So if you are so enlightened, feel free to give me a call at anytime to talk sports, or even ask some political questions. I will be happy to take any callers, and I would be especially thrilled to hear from some people back in Akron:

1. Dayton Sports (10:00 to 10:30)

  • Men’s soccer season overview and complete recap of Friday’s game against Wisconsin
  • Men’s football season overview and lengthy preview of Saturday’s game against Fordham
  • Women’s volleyball; results from last weekend’s tournament and season prospects
  • Brief talk about women’s soccer/golf

2. National Football League (10:30 to 11:00)

  • Multitude of week one injuries; Tom Brady out for the season, Vince Young “unstable”, LT, Colston, McGahee and others
  • Cleveland Browns get killed by Dallas Cowboys, and team still looking for first win. Preview upcoming game against Pittsburgh.
  • Fantasy Football discussion; my proposal for rotisserie and the other proposals for head-to-head
  • Is LeBron James trying to get Cleveland fans to hate him? Why would he wear a Yankees hat and Cowboys shirt while talking to Adam Jones on the sideline?

3. Major League Baseball (11:00 to 11:30)

  • Are the Cleveland Indians of 2009 going to be more like the Cleveland Indians of July through September, or the ones from April through June?
  • Which teams have the best current chance of winning the World Series? What happened from the beginning of the season to now that enabled this to happen?
  • Look at the MVP and Cy Young races, and ask whether Cliff Lee deserves it? Did C.C. Sabathia and Chipper Jones play enough games to warrant consideration?
  • Take your pick – will it be the Milwaukee Brewers or Chicago Cubs to come out of the National League Central, and White Sox or Twins in the American League Central?

4. College Football (11:30 to 12:00)

  • What are the big games to watch for this weekend? Will Ohio State even have a chance against Southern California on the road?
  • Are the Big 12 and SEC so much farther ahead of the rest of the FBS? Are Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas all deserving of being in the top ten in the nation? If so, will they all deserve it at year-end?
  • Are East Carolina, Brigham Young, and Utah all for real this year? Will any have a chance of actually making a BCS game?
  • Who should really be the top teams in the nation? Describe the process of pre-season rankings, with a reference to the College Football Research Center.
