Dayton Flyers

Here is a link to my page about CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK

I will be recapping every single game of the 2008-2009 Dayton Flyers men’s basketball season and this page includes a link to the category for all of those posts along with their entire schedule. The Dayton Flyers are led by sophomore Chris Wright from Trotwood-Madison High School, along with junior Marcus Johnson out of St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School. They were projected to finish third in the Atlantic-10 by an official preseason conference poll, and it should be very interesting to see how the team follows up this season after a roller coaster 23-11 year in 2007-2008.

They lose all-time great guard Brian Roberts, who was their steady team leader last year as a senior when they sped off to a 14-1 start while at one point ranked #14 in the nation. Unfortunately, an injury to Wright that limited him to only 15 games all season long, and inconsistent play within the Atlantic-10 Conference brought the Flyers to the NIT. Their season ended there when they lost to eventual champions Ohio State in the Quarterfinals, but 2008-2009 looks promising with the return of Wright and the expected contributions from several other notable players. This list of players includes Johnson, Kurt Huelsman, London Warren, Charles Little, Devin Searcy, Rob Lowery, Stephen Thomas and a star studded incoming freshman class of Paul Williams, Chris Johnson, Josh Benson and Luke Fabrizius.

In my analysis, I will commonly reference college basketball efficiency statistics that are displayed on Ken Pomeroy’s great website and blog. I strongly recommend this website for all sport statistics and college basketball enthusiasts. His work is vastly under-appreciate in the mainstream media, but I liken his work in college basketball to the ground-breaking analysis of Nate Silver in Major League Basketball.

In addition, I also recommend Warren Nolan’s RPI website. I have been regularly checking that website for years now, and it is definitely one of the best on the web. He is one of the more consistent guys out there on the web, and you can trust him to have the most up-to-date information.
